The 4L60E is rather infamous in the automotive world. An extremely common unit in many GM vehicles, it is the successor to the 700-R4 and has given many an enthusiast headache, pain and frustration. It’s not secret a stock 4L60E leaves a lot to be desired, and it is not uncommon to hear of stock motors frying stock units. However, there is a tremendous aftermarket for the 4L60E and the demand for well built 4L60E units is very high. There are numerous reasons why some people would prefer to opt for a built 4L60E rather than swapping to a 4L80E. Perhaps their power level doesn’t call for an entire transmission swap, they’re trying to keep the drivetrain somewhat stock, or for whatever other reason.
